The stuff of nightmares: Bad dreams explored at Middleboro Library

Oct 10, 2022

MIDDLEBORO _  One of the most visible and prolific researchers of folklore and legends today, Jeff Belanger returns to the Middleborough
Public Library with his presentation, “Nightmares,” on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m.

People spend a third of their  lives sleeping, with much of the night filled with dreams. Peculiarly vivid, disturbing dreams leave behind impressions that are hard to dismiss. But what are nightmares? And what significance do they have for the dreamer? Questions like these have been asked and answered in all time periods in all of the world’s cultures.

Belanger’s program is based on his book, The Nightmare Encyclopedia: Your Darkest Dreams Interpreted, and he’ll dive into sleep, dreams, and why people dream, then explore the most profound and memorable of all dreams: nightmares.

He will explain the paranormal in our sleep, what our dreams mean, and the symbols and archetypes of the dream world. Audience members will have the chance to get some of their dreams interpreted.

A question-and-answer session will follow the program. This program is for adults and high school-aged teens only.

For 25 years, Belanger has been exploring the unexplained. He’s an author, podcaster, storyteller, and adventurer. He’s written more than a dozen books published in six languages. He’s the Emmy-nominated host, writer and producer of the New England Legends series on PBS and Amazon Prime.

He provides programs and lectures to audiences all over the world, and he’s been the writer and researcher for every episode of Ghost Adventures on the Travel Channel. He’s made media appearances on hundreds of radio and television programs and has a passion for mysteries and legends
