Structure fire at Brookside Engineering building
MIDDLEBORO – Middleboro firefighters responded to a structure fire at Brookside Engineering on the night of Monday, Oct. 23.
According to a Middleboro Fire Department Facebook post, the department responded to a call regarding a fire in the machine shop area. Middleboro Fire Chief Owen Thompson did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the cause of the fire.
Due to limited staffing, off-duty personnel were called to the scene according to the post.
“Being that the single engine responding to the call would not have sufficient equipment for the incoming off-duty personnel…a working fire assignment was requested from the Plymouth County mutual aid dispatch center before any Middleboro units arrived on scene,” wrote the department in the post.
According to the post, the essential equipment included a self contained breathing apparatus and basic fire fighting tools.
“Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke with fire showing, " wrote the department in the post. “Engine 3 made an aggressive interior attack, keeping the fire contained to the duct system.”
According to the post, no injuries were reported.
In the post, the Middleboro Fire Department thanked the Raynham and Bridgewater departments for their assistance on scene and the Lakeville Fire Department for covering the town while they responded to the call.
