MIDDLEBORO — There are lots of spooky things happening this month at the Middleboro Public Library.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the library will welcome three Smithsonian-affiliated scientists to talk about the remarkable world of tropical bats as part of its online 60 minute virtual author talk series. This program will discuss the book “Bat Island: A Rare Journey into the Hidden World of Tropical Bats” that brings scientific expertise together with photography from National Geographic contributor Christian Ziegler. The program will  begin at 2 p.m. Click here to register.

The Library’s annual costume swap will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Library’s Large Meeting room. Donate any clean, gently used kids costumes and accessories and get a ticket to shop at the Costume Swap prior to it opening to the public. No donation is necessary to come and shop the swap during public hours. There will be games, crafts and other festive activities as well. The Costume Swap will be open to ticketholders who donated from 10 to 11 a.m. and to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Donations can be brought to the Children’s room in the lower level of the library during regular hours.

On Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. pianist Richard Hughes will add another dimension to best, spookiest films from the Golden Age of Silent movies by providing accompanying spooktacular piano music to films on screen. Registration is requested but not required and will be available on the library’s site starting Oct. 1.

On Wednesday, Oct. 30 the library will welcome author Jeff Belanger, an expert in delving into the territory of unusual and unexplained phenomena in the program “Ghosts and Legends.” This ghostly multi-media program will take audience members on a journey through the haunts in your backyard and around the world.
