Select board members support individual office hours
MIDDLEBORO — Middleboro Select board members agreed at their Monday, Sept. 18 meeting to schedule times to meet with residents individually so the public can share their concerns.
These public hours, which were proposed by Select Board Chair Mark Germain, would allow residents to “talk to us one on one,’’ he said.
An exact schedule was not set at the meeting but all four members in attendance supported the concept. Each meeting will be attended by one select board member.
An opportunity for public comment is provided at all meetings of the board, but not all residents are comfortable speaking at a public meeting, Germain said.
Select board member Brian Giovanoni agreed that “a lot of people don’t want to come up in front of a microphone.’’
Select Board member Thomas White said that board members try to make themselves accessible to the community but welcomed another opportunity to do that.
“The more we can do to make the public more comfortable approaching us’’ the better, he said.
Colleen Lieb, executive assistant to the select board, was asked to facilitate the one-on-one schedules.
