Scare up a good time at Middleboro Library

Oct 12, 2022

MIDDLEBORO — Middleboro Public Library is hosting some spooky fun in the weeks ahead.

Perennial favorite Toe Jam Puppet Band is returning to town this month for a "Spook-tacular" performance in the ballroom at Town Hall, 10 Nickerson Ave.

Mr. Tom and Mr. Vinny will perform from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 with a kid-friendly celebration of Halloween with lots of fun, music, silliness and, for this show only, candy.

Kids and parents in costume are welcome, and the show is best for kids ages three to eight and their families.

Registration is required so call the library at (508) 946-2470.

Carol Carver is starting a new five-week program Mondays in October and November. The first session will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17.

This group is geared toward children ages three to five who will be learning about a lot of different “jobs’’ they might like to do someday. The program includes songs, movement, art, stories, games and a few visitors from the community.

Registration is required. To register, email Carver at ccarver@selfhelpinc.org.

Want to help brighten the day of local seniors who utilize the Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program? Sign up for a craft kit and make tabletop turkey decorations to be included with November meals.

Each kit makes five turkey decorations and the project is best for children three and older. Some help may be needed from an adult.

Completed projects are due back to the library as soon as possible and no later than Tuesday, Nov. 15 so they can be delivered on time. To register, call the library at (508) 946-2470.

One of the most visible and prolific researchers of folklore and legends today, Jeff Belanger returns to the library with his presentation, “Nightmares,” on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m.

People spend a third of their  lives sleeping, with much of the night filled with dreams. Peculiarly vivid, disturbing dreams leave behind impressions that are hard to dismiss. But what are nightmares? And what significance do they have for the dreamer? Questions like these have been asked and answered in all time periods in all of the world’s cultures.

Belanger’s program is based on his book, The Nightmare Encyclopedia: Your Darkest Dreams Interpreted, and he’ll dive into sleep, dreams, and why people dream, then explore the most profound and memorable of all dreams: nightmares.

Seating is limited so registration is required. Call (508) 946-2470 or email Reference Librarian Libby Fox at lfox@sailinc.org. Belanger’s appearance is sponsored by the Friends of the Middleborough Public Library.
