Jan 11, 2024
Roger W. Shurtleff, Jr. of Middleboro died peacefully and surrounded by his family on January 8, 2024.  He was 92.

He was born on December 24, 1931 in Middleboro, son of the late Roger W. and Elsie (Galfre) Shurtleff.  He attended local schools and later relocated to Florida, where he pursued his college education.

Roger served our country with honor and pride.  He was a veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War (x2) serving in the United States Navy and the United States Army (1949-1968).  A decorated veteran, he was awarded many medals and received many commendations. Roger's final assignement to the Cape Cod Canal was a perfect and desirable ending to his military career.

Roger traveled and enjoyed seeing the world.  He appreciated classical music, which blared at his garage parties.  Active in many organizations, Roger especially enjoyed the Yacht Club dining and Boat Parade parties. He cherished the Tiki Bar and with a Cape Codder in hand, treasured the conversation and many laughs.

A true Middleboro native, Roger returned to his hometown and his roots.  He remembered every person and recalled every place and the happenings.  It was if he had never left.

Roger is survived by a large and loving family.
