Prolific Apponequet girls soccer team falls one goal short in playoff game

LAKEVILLE – The Apponequet girls varsity soccer team made it to the playoffs, but ultimately a physical Archbishop Williams team was able to beat the Lakers on Sunday, Nov. 5 in a close 3-4 match.

CC Leavrault scored first for the Lakers. Morgan Hayward then scored two. But the Lakers were behind for much of the game, and ultimately the three goals weren’t enough to win the game. The loss means they will no longer continue in the Massachusetts division 3 tournament.

“It would have been nice to continue,” Lakers head coach Walter Seaberg said. “Unfortunately we couldn’t put the extra [goal] in there to get where we needed to be.”

The Lakers found success during the regular season. Before Sunday’s loss, the Lakers had only lost one of the twenty games they played, and the team’s record saw them win the South Coast Conference championship.

Seaberg said that he was “a little bit” emotional after the loss and would be more emotional once he spoke with his team.

“I will be more [emotional] when I start talking to them,” he said. “I’m OK now. When I start talking to them, it will be tough.”
