Program set for Middleboro celebrates Capoeira culture
MIDDLEBORO — The Middleboro Public Library is hosting a presentation for all ages showcasing martial arts and music by the Mass Capoeira Culture Center on the Town Hall lawn on Tuesday, July 25 at 6 p.m.
During the show, participants will learn about Capoeira as a culture and martial art, the instruments used, and traditional capoeira songs. There will be a demonstration by the members
of Mass Capoeira Culture Center and then the opportunity for audience participation.
According to the Mass Capoeira Culture Center: “Capoeira is a rich cultural tradition that incorporates elements of martial arts, dance, music, and language. Initially developed as a form of resistance by enslaved peoples in colonial-era Brazil, today capoeira is one of the most widely recognized symbols of Brazilian heritage and identity, and is a main vehicle for the dissemination of Brazilian culture and Portuguese language around the world.”
In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held indoors in the Town Hall ballroom.
This program is supported by the Wilfred M. Silvia Library Trust.
