The Lakeville Fire Department was alerted to a bicycle accident at about 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 Responders were forced to navigate against the flow of bicycle traffic, support vehicles and other vehicles in the area to reach the injured rider, the department reported.

The specifics of how the accident occurred are not certain, Lakeville Fire Chief Michael O’Brien said. No motor vehicle appeared to be involved, the chief said.

The injured man was being treated by event medical staff and a private ambulance crew when Lakeville Fire arrived.

Due to the severity of the man’s injuries, Lakeville paramedics took over care of the patient. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.
