MILDRED IRENE (CUSHING) TRIBOU
FEBRUARY 24, 1924 – OCTOBER 22, 2024

Hyannis – Mildred I. Tribou, 100, Died Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Cape Cod Hospital after a short illness.

Born February 24, 1924 at Middleboro, MA to Edna (Thomas) Cushing and Henry Cushing of Lakeville, MA, Millie attended Lakeville Elementary School and graduated from Middleboro Memorial High School in 1942.

Married in 1944 to a very handsome U.S. Navy officer, CDR. Kendrick H. Tribou of Middleboro, MA, their marriage lasted fifty-nine wonderful years until his death. As the wife of a Naval Officer, Millie lived in many interesting and exciting locations during her long life: Lakeville, MA; Pensacola, FL; Jacksonville, FL; Millington, TN; Midway Island; Hawaii; Irving, TX; Ivyland, PA; North Kingston, RI; Hyannis, MA. Ken and Millie often traveled in their RV to many National Parks around the United States in their retirement years. They also had a winter residence in Frostproof, FL.

Devoted to her family and friends, Millie enjoyed many personal and social interests: She helped organize and attended most of her high school class reunions since 1942 until the past decade; while on Midway Island she became involved in ceramics and taught classes to others, even had a ceramics TV Show for the Navy Personnel. She was an avid collector of dolls and paperweights; she was a true lover of nature, appreciating beautiful flowers and gardens, learning about wildlife in their natural habitats, as well as in her own backyard. Throughout her life she always had multiple dogs, cats, and birds as household pets; during this past year she cared for a senior Pomeranian dog named “Oopsie” who passed away just a few weeks before Millie, and a twenty-three-year old feral cat named “Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo” whom, to safeguard against coyote attacks, she took into her house and survives her.

She was especially proud of her family history which began for both her maternal and paternal sides in New England with the Mayflower landing in Plymouth in 1620 and the Massachusetts Bay Company voyages shortly thereafter. She took pride in being a documented descendant of many Mayflower passengers and was approved for membership in the Society of Mayflower Descendants, Massachusetts in 2003.

Millie is survived by a son, Edward Tribou (Darlene); a daughter, Michelle Grace Tribou, for whom she held a very special place in her heart and loved very much; grandsons Eric Tribou and Christopher Tribou (Renee); great-grandsons Connor Tribou and Holden Tribou; nieces Judith Nourse Butler (Dennis) and Gail Nourse.

She was predeceased by her husband and her parents; a son, Kendrick Henry Tribou, sisters Anna (Mrs. Fred Nourse); Ruth (Mrs. Bradford Norris); a nephew, David Nourse.

A private interment was held on November 21, 2024 at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. Arrangements were made through Doane and Beal and Ames in Hyannis.
