MIDDLEBORO — Little League Baseball isn’t the only sport that Middleboro youth teams had massive success in this year.

Middleboro won the Old Colony Youth Football League Super Bowl in the Division 3 Midgets Super Bowl with a 20-8 win over Hanson at East Bridgewater High School on Sunday, Nov. 14. The league is made up of seventh and eighth graders.

The team, sponsored by the Mitchell Memorial Club, won seven of its 10 games during the season. One of its losses was a 12-8 game against Silver Lake.

In what Head Coach Rich Medeiros calls the proudest moment of the year, Middleboro beat Silver Lake 24-0 when they faced off again in the semifinals of the playoffs.

“We have a lot of good football players who work hard,” Medeiros said. “And they’re great kids who love being football players.”

The team celebrated its championship with an “awesome” team party at Central Café. Next season, the team’s 8th graders will join the Middleboro High School team “to help the Sachems win,” Medeiros said.

Medeiros has tasked the team’s seventh graders with leading the charge to defend the championship when they become eighth graders next season.
