Middleboro schedules senior activities

MIDDLEBORO — Here is a sampling of programs offered in January at the Middleboro Council on Aging. 

Acoustic musician Ken Monteiro performs live at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, with a blend of modern and classic favorites from rock and country genres. Call ahead to reserve a seat, 508-946-2490. There is no charge for this concert.

 Movie Day at the COA presents “Arthur the King’’ at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23.  

A program on one of history’s most unusual occurrences, the Great Molasses Disaster, will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. The tragedy took place in January 1919 in Boston’s North End. The talk by presenter Nancy Franks will explore how the disaster occurred and what changes the event led to. Call to reserve a seat at 508-946-2490.

 Learn to play Mah Jongg Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m. 

 Cardio dance is offered at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Call to reserve at 508-946-2490.

Tai Chi instructor Vince Jornales will teach the practice from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays. The first class is free.

Throughout the month, help is available for Middleborough seniors wishing to apply for Fuel Assistance or SNAP, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. By appointment only, call 508-946-2490 and ask for Maureen.

Monthly Line Dancing with Dave and Marcia Burbank returns from 1 to 2 p.m. Feb. 25, Fee is $5.

Chair yoga and guided meditation have combined into Meditative Chair Yoga, which will take place at 10 a.m. Mondays and Fridays.

The fee is $5 per class. 

Instructor Sylvia will spend 45 minutes guiding participants through deep breathing and stretching. She will then focus on meditation for the final 15 minutes, with the goal of complete mind, body and soul refresh.
