Middleboro Public Library announces April vacation week programs for kids and teens

Apr 6, 2025

The Middleboro Public Library will host a variety of educational and interactive programs for children and teens during April vacation week, from April 22 to April 26. All programs are free and open to the public, with registration required for some events.

On Tuesday, April 22, at 1 p.m., the library will present Discover Birds of Prey for ages 11-17. The program, led by a presenter from Mass Audubon, will explore the different birds of prey found in Massachusetts. Participants will handle touchable artifacts, engage in inquiry-based exploration stations, and conclude with a live animal encounter featuring two birds of prey. Attendance is limited to 30 registered participants, and caregivers are encouraged to drop off their children.

Children ages 7-11 can participate in the Kids Earth Week Art Workshop on Wednesday, April 22, or Thursday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. Local artist Kara Andrews from Art on the Spot will guide children in creating recycled mixed media artwork using materials such as discarded book pages, newspapers, scrapbook paper, and natural elements.

Teens ages 11-17 are invited to a Recycled Mixed Media Art Workshop on Wednesday, April 22, or Thursday, April 23, at 1 p.m. This workshop, led by Kara Andrews, will also focus on creating art using recycled materials.

On Thursday, April 24, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., the library will host an Out of This World Family Game Afternoon. Families are invited to join in a board game event, featuring space-themed games in honor of Massachusetts Space Week, along with other games from the library’s collection. Participants are also welcome to bring their own games to share. This is a drop-in event open to all ages.

Finally, on Saturday, April 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA) will present its Whale Program. Attendees will have the chance to step inside a life-sized inflatable humpback whale, named Salt, and enjoy hands-on activities while learning about ocean creatures. No registration is required for this program, which is open to all ages.

These programs are funded by a grant from the Middleboro Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Mass Cultural Council. For more information, contact Amanda Meyer, Children’s Librarian, at ameyer@sailsinc.org or 508-946-2470, or Chris Dargelis, YA Librarian, at cdargeli@sailsinc.org.
