Middleboro, Lakeville headed to the polls
Voters in Middleboro and Lakeville will be heading to the polls for the annual town elections in both communities.
Middleboro town elections will be held Saturday, April 5 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Lakeville town elections will be held on Monday, April 7 from noon to 8 p.m.
Middleboro voters will choose two select board members from among three candidates.
Incumbents Brian Giovanoni and William Pike are seeking re-election. They are being challenged by newcomer Sarah Wilbur.
Giovanoni previously served nine years on the School Committee and was a member of the committee that studied the possibility of a casino coming to town nearly 20 years ago.
Pike formerly served as chair of the Finance Committee before being elected last spring to a one-year term left vacant when a select board member resigned.
Wilbur has lived in town for eight months and said she decided this is a good time to seek public office.
The School Committee is guaranteed to have at least one new face, with incumbent Marcy Fregault opting not to run again. Incumbent Christopher Benson is being challenged by newcomers Shannon Breen and Abbie Gonzalez.
All other races have no opposition.
Voting hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Precinct 1 votes at Oak Point Club House, 202 Oak Point Drive; Precincts 2, 4 and 6 at Middleboro High School, 71 E. Grove St.; Precinct 3, South Middleboro Fire Station, 566 Wareham St.; Precincts 5 and 5A, Council on Aging, 558 Plymouth St. and Precinct 7 and 7A, Nichols Middle School, 112 Tiger Drive.
In Lakeville, voters from all three precincts will head to Ted Williams Camp, Loon Pond Lodge, 28 Precinct St.
Three candidates are seeking two available positions on the Select Board. Incumbent Evagelia “Lia’’ Fabian is seeking re-election. Two newcomers, Paul Hunt and Christopher Plonka, are seeking the other seat made available when incumbent Brynna Donahue chose not to run again.
Fabian has served on the board, including a term as chair, since 2019. Hunt served on the Lakeville Police Department for 28 years and in 2015 opened a gun shop with his sons. Plonka spent 25 years in the U.S. Air Force and later chaired the Finance Committee and has been active with Lakeville Lions.
The only other contested race is for the Board of Health. Incumbent Robert J. Poilluci will be running against newcomer Ann Marie Wronski.
