MIDDLEBORO — A 59-year-old motorcyclist from Swansea was transported to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence by medical helicopter after being hit by a Lakeville driver near 136 Wood St. Sunday, Jan. 1, Middleboro police said.

The motorcyclist, whose name was not released, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries to his lower body, police said. He was transported via helicopter from a field at Memorial Early Childhood Center in Middleboro, police said. 

Police received a report at 11:15 a.m. that a motorcyclist was hit near 136 Wood St. Police said that a Lakeville man, 88, was exiting St. Mary’s Cemetery on Wood Street when he struck the motorcycle. 

The driver was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way, police said. Police did not release his name.
