Leonard (Lenny) Henry Fernandes
November 6, 1944 – December 17, 2023

Leonard Fernandes of Middleboro, formerly of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully after a long and devastating battle with Alzheimer’s on December 17, 2023. He had just celebrated his 79th birthday in November.

Lenny was born in Bridgewater, Ma. To the late Anthony H. Fernandes and Eleanor A. (Atkinson) Fernandes. He attended Bridgewater Raynham High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1962. While enlisted he worked as a submarine tender on the USS Bushnell (AS-15) and was stationed in Key West, Florida. Upon returning from the Navy. Lenny then enlisted with the National Guard. At this time Lenny also worked alongside his father as a carpenter building homes for a number of years prior to starting his new career as a correctional officer at the Southeast Correctional Center in Bridgewater for 20+ years. Lenny was an avid New England sports fan and family man.

Lenny is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna (Robbins) Fernandes, of Middleboro. His daughters; Dawn McSherry and her fiancé Rick Litif of Plymouth. Denise Petronelli and husband David Petronelli of Middleboro. Granddaughter Amanda Coelho and husband Tony Coelho along with great grandson Anthony Coelho of Middleboro. Sisters Laurie Zion and Marianne McNamara.

Lenny was predeceased by his daughter Tammy Fernandes, granddaughter Emily Randall, Brother Robert Fernandes and Sister Barbara Cornell.

Services at Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 17 Main Street, Lakeville on Saturday December 23, 2023. Visiting hours 9:30-11:00 followed by eulogy, then military graveside service at St. Mary’s Cemetery on 135 Wood Street, Middleboro, Ma. 02346
