Lakeville Senior Center offers September activities

A variety of events are scheduled in September at the Lakeville Senior Center, 1 Dear Crossing. 

Here is a sampling of the activities:

Congregate meals are served every Tuesday and Thursday at 11:30 a.m. September dates are Sept. 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29. These are sit-down meals only; no takeout is offered. These meals are serving in a dining room atmosphere to promote socialization and provide a chance to get out and meet others. There is a suggested donation of $2.50, but the meals are available regardless of ability to pay. To sign up for these meals, call (508) 947-7224 and press 1.

Hip Hop Dance Chair Exercises are available at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12. This “Soul Train’’ inspired chair dance class is specifically designed for seniors. Sign-ups are required. To sign up, call (508) 947-7224 and press 1.

A workshop on the Registry of Motor Vehicles’ Real ID card program will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. This program will provide information on new federal and state requirements about drivers’ license and ID card renewals. Light refreshments will be served. Sign-ups are required. A meeting of the Seniors and Law Enforcement Council (SALT) will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. The goal is to increase seniors’ safety through local education and crime prevention. The council includes representatives from the police and fire departments, sheriff’s office, district attorney’s office and council on aging personnel. All are welcome to attend and share ideas about future programs. Sign-ups are required. To sign up, call (508) 947-7224 and press 1.

Representatives of the Lakeville Select Board will visit the center from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9. 

State Rep. Norman Orrall will visit from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12. 

State Sen. Michael Rodrigues will host office hours from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12. 

Attorney Adam Bond of Middleboro will offer free 20-minute consultations to Lakeville seniors by appointment only at the center from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. 

Council on Aging cafes are held Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m. The program is not limited to Lakeville seniors; coffee, tea, juices, water and goodies will be provided. Donations may be made to the cafe donation jar to help defray the cost.
