Lakeville Police Officer and State Police Officer shoot armed suspect
LAKEVILLE - Lakeville and state police officers shot and injured Lakeville resident Timothy Hladik on early Friday, Sept. 29, according to press releases from the Lakeville Police Department and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
Hladik was armed with a “replica gun,” according to Lakeville Police Chief Matthew Perkins. At 3:45 a.m., Hladik approached a Lakeville police officer who was monitoring traffic “near the intersection of Precinct and Pickens streets” and displayed “what appeared to be a handgun.”
The Lakeville police officer retreated behind his vehicle and ordered Hladik to drop the weapon. According to the Lakeville Police Department press release, Hladik “did not comply.”
A state police officer then arrived at the confrontation, according to the press release, and provided assistance to the Lakeville police officer. Both officers “repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon.” However, according to the press release, Hladik “took an aggressive stance and raised the weapon.”
After Hladik raised his weapon, “both [police officers] fired, striking the suspect” due to “fearing for their safety.” According to the press release, both officers then provided medical assistance to Hladik and secured Hladik’s weapon.
On Monday, Hladik was arraigned from his hospital bed in St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, according to a Plymouth County District Attorney press release. He has been charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of threat to commit a cCrime.
The names of both officers have not yet been identified in either press release. Body camera footage of the incident is available and will be released at a later date.
Hladik is now being held in custody pending a dangerousness hearing, which will take place on October 12 at noon.
The weapons of the two officers were taken as part of the investigation. The Lakeville police officer was taken off-duty, “as is standard procedure in any police-involved shooting,” according to the Lakeville police press release.
According to the district attorney, an investigation is still ongoing.
