Lakeville firefighters respond to single family home fire
LAKEVILLE – Lakeville Firefighters were called out for a report of smoke coming from the basement of a single family home on Nachaomet Road around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
According to a Lakeville Fire Department Facebook post, the first arriving firefighter found a smoke condition in the basement of the home. Firefighters ruled out the furnace and searched for the fire with thermal imagers.
“With assistance from a resident a fire was located on the exterior of the home, the fire had begun to spread into the house,” wrote the department in the post.
According to the post, the fire was likely caused by a discarded cigarette into combustible materials and several cigarettes were found in the area.
Firefighters used a pressurized water extinguisher to fully extinguish the fire and responders ventilated the home and utilized meters to check air quality according to the post.
According to Lakeville Fire Chief Michael O’Brien, no injuries were reported.
“The residents of this home were very fortunate to not experience a significant loss today,” wrote the department in the post. “Lakeville Firefighters would like to remind our residents to properly dispose of any smoking materials and to not let combustible waste accumulate on their property.”
