Lakeville Fire open house aims to build warm connections

LAKEVILLE — The Lakeville Fire Department rolled its doors open and its equipment out to welcome the community as its annual open house Saturday, Oct. 5.

The event featured a dunk tank, fire engines to kids to climb on, face painting, hot dogs and popcorn and according to Fire Chief Michael O’Brien, a chance for the public to learn more about the department.

“This is a good opportunity for the community to come in and meet our people and see what they do,’’ the chief said. The event “allows us to connect with them and to build a relationship.’’

Firefighter Alex Copeland described the day as “awesome.’’

His fellow firefighter Matt Mokeler agreed. Visitors, he said, “can come by and see what goes on at the fire department.’’

For Kristen Morse, the day served as something of a take-your-children-to-dad’s work day. Her husband Wayne is a town firefighter.

“It’s great that the kids get to see what their dad is doing,’’ she said.
