Jeanne E. Roberts, 98
Jeanne E. Roberts, a lifelong resident of North Middleboro, passed away peacefully on Christmas morning, December 25, 2024, at age 98.
Mrs. Roberts was the daughter of the late Russell and Jessie Carver, wife of the late Philip Roberts, sister of the late John (Jack) Carver, the mother of Linda McKinney and her husband Bill of Craigville and Joyce (Jody) Ryan of North Middleboro, grandmother of Kelly Letendre and her husband Dan, Chris Ryan, and Wendy Porter and her husband Jim, and great-grandmother of Danny Letendre, Ryan Letendre, Joseph Letendre, Klause Porter and Max Porter.
Jeanne was born in the Pleasant Street home of her parents and was an active member of the North Congregational Church her entire life. Neighbors knew her as one of the church's "pie ladies" at the church's Roast Beef Suppers, organizer of the weekly Flower Chart and a caregiver to countless persons in need. She participated in more than 90 years in the North Middleboro's 4th of July parade with over 80 years with her lifelong friend Jane Bagdon. Jeanne coordinated and lent many costumes collected in the family home attic for Halloween, parades, events and school plays - enjoyed by family and many neighbors and local organizations.
Jeanne graduated from Middleboro Schools and Winifred Academy in Boston. She was employed by the Middleboro Public Schools, where she worked for many years as Head Cook overseeing 4 schools (Henry B. Burkland, Mayflower, Union and School Street). An avid cook and baker, she cherished her kitchen time at school and at home hosting Holidays and family gatherings and continued the family tradition of quilt making.
In retirement, Jeanne cared for her mother, living at the Carver family home with her final years at the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home in Middleboro where she was grateful for the many friendships developed and the compassionate care and kindness received. She also took on new adventures: singing in the church's Godspell performance, volunteering in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and adjusting to social changes that touched both her local community and her own family.
There will be a celebration of Jeanne Roberts' life on Saturday January 25 at 11 a.m. followed by a community luncheon to be held at the North Congregational Church, 38 Plymouth Street Middleboro, Mass.
The family invites memorial contributions to the North Congregational Church Steeple Fund at PO Box 1209, Middleboro, MA 02346.
