Mar 3, 2023

MIDDLEBORO — Organizers of a program to honor local veterans by displaying banners throughout Middleboro are reaching out for public support.

Middleboro is actively seeking donations to benefit the Middleborough Hometown Heroes Project, Town Manager James McGrail and Veterans Services Officer Stephen Adelman have announced.

The Middleboro Hometown Heroes Project will highlight local veterans by sharing their names and photos on banners throughout town. Middleboro plans to display 40-45 banners yearly from May 15 through Nov. 15.

Hometown Heroes is a project that has spread in popularity throughout towns and cities across the U.S. with the goal of recognizing, honoring and paying tribute to local military service personnel.

Donations to benefit the Middleborough Hometown Heroes project will help eliminate costs for families that are interested in requesting a banner for a loved one.

Donations can be made via cash, money order or check and mailed to Veterans Services, 20 Center St., Middleboro, MA 02346. Donations can also be dropped off on the third floor of the Middleboro Town Hall Annex, located at 20 Centre St., between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

All checks should be addressed to the Town of Middleboro Attn: Communications – Veterans Services.

Middleboro is also accepting applications for those interested in requesting a banner in honor of a veteran.

Applications are available for pickup on the third floor of the Middleboro Town Hall Annex, located at 20 Centre Street. Applications can be picked up and dropped off between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applications are also available online at https://middleboroughma.gov/DocumentCenter/View/4930/Middleborough-Banner-Application-2023

Deadline to submit applications is Monday, April 3. Banners are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

"I want to thank the Middleboro community for their continued support as we launch this project," Adelman said. "I am looking forward to honoring our veterans and continuing this project for years to come."
