Goode School students in the running for new playground equipment

Nov 3, 2022

MIDDLEBORO — The weather was perfect for a run.

Especially, when the run helps raise money for future outdoor fun.

Students at Goode Elementary School ran laps Thursday, Nov. 3 during the Fun Run fund-raiser on the school grounds. Donors pledged money on their behalf to help augment the school’s outdoor equipment, sponsor field trip and support other enrichment programs, Goode School PTA President Stephanie Hewins said.

The run was “a huge success,’’ Hewins said. “Not only do the students, teachers and staff benefit from all the monies raised, they also get to participate in a school wide, school spirit event.”

With so many events sidelined due to Covid, Hewins said, “this is just what the MKG School Community needed.’’

Even before the first sneaker lace was tied, the PTA’s goal of $25,000 was exceeded. Donors had contributed a total of $34,000 before the fun run. The fund-raising effort has raised nearly $36,000 to date. Funds will be raised through midnight Nov. 11.

“I love this,’’ said principal Lisa White , who wore a colorful tutu to reflect the fun mood of the day. “This gets them up, gets them moving. Everyone gets to participate.’’

Before his group lined up for their run, fourth grader Brian Grant said he looked forward to the activity, which he said was “really fun.’’

“It’s really cool to raise money for better playground equipment and field trips,’’ he said.

White thanked the PTA, parent volunteers, staff members and community sponsors for their support.

“We are already looking forward to it again next year,’’ she said.
