Family displaced after Lakeville house fire

Dec 23, 2024

LAKEVILLE — At least 6 family members were displaced after a house fire Tuesday night Dec. 22 at 3 Anaconda Drive, Lakeville Fire Chief Michael O’Brien reported.

One person was home at the time of the fire but was able to escape without injury, the chief said.

The department received a report of smoke after 11 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they were able to enter the home through the front door and quickly extinguished the blaze, O’Brien said.

Firefighters rescued two dogs; family members had already removed the other two. The family's cats, birds, and all but one of their pet reptiles survived the fire.

Ronnie Frates, Lakeville Assistant Animal Control Officer, collected some of the displaced pets and provided shelter for the animals, according to the chief.

The family’s Christmas gifts were moved out of the fire’s path, O’Brien said, although he was uncertain whether all were able to be saved.

The Red Cross responded to the scene and assisted the family. Middleboro, Raynham and Freetown fire departments provided mutual aid.

The scene was cleared at about 2:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23.

The fire is not considered suspicious and the cause is still under investigation. Plymouth County Sheriff's Office provided investigation support at the scene.

O’Brien extended his support to the family.

“Being displaced from your home because of a fire is a nightmare, but it is especially difficult two days before Christmas,’’ he said. “I hope the family takes comfort in the fact that nobody was hurt and there will be better days ahead.’’
