Elwin L. Hanson Jr., 81
LAKEVILLE - Elwin L. Hanson Jr., age 81, of Lakeville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Boston Medical Center - South in Brockton, after a period of declining health. Elwin was predeceased by his loving wife of 39 years, Phyllis (Hinckley) Hanson.
Born on June 27,1943 in Middleborough, he was the son of the late Elwin Lane and Ellen K. (Alger) Hanson. Elwin grew up in Middleborough and graduated from Middleborough High School, Class of 1961, where he played trombone in the band, orchestra and symphonic band, in addition to being football manager and class treasurer. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Bentley College in Boston.
A resident of Lakeville for over 50 years, Elwin worked as an accounting clerk at Ocean Spray in Plymouth, prior to 23 years working as assistant to the controller at Saint Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, until his retirement in 2007. Elwin served with the Massachusetts National Guard and the United States Army stationed at Fort Benning in Georgia.
He enjoyed all sports and was especially interested in anything weather-related. For years, Elwin was a member of the Board of Trustees and served as treasurer for the Central Cemetery Association and was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Middleborough for over 70 Years, where he served on the Board of Trustees in addition to several committees. Elwin was a quiet man and known for being reliable, faithful and trustworthy.
Elwin is survived by his brother, Raymond Hanson & his wife Carol; nieces and nephews: Paula Markell & her husband Edwin, Fred Hanson & his wife Jong He, Cheryl Kirkland & her husband Paul, Pamela Beshore, Julie Deminico & her husband Eric, Michelle Taylor & her husband Rick, Kerrie Perkins & her husband Matt, Anne Hanson, Jeff Hanson & his wife Ashley, Kristen Hanson; great-nieces and great-nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers, John Hanson and David Hanson. Elwin is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dianne Hanson, and his special friends, Janet Smith of Raynham and Lester Garnier of Lakeville.
Family and friends are welcome to the visiting hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 9:30-11:30 AM, followed with a funeral service starting at 11:30 AM, with his niece, Pastor Kristen Hanson, officiating.
Interment services will follow at the Nemasket Hill Cemetery, Plymouth Street, Middleborough.
