Driver transported by medical helicopter after Lakeville crash

LAKEVILLE _ A 46-year-old man was transported via medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital after suffering significant injuries in a single-vehicle crash south of Crooked Lane just before 1 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, according to the Lakeville Fire Department. 

A  Main Street resident heard a loud crash and notified police. An officer searched the area and discovered a pick-up truck that had struck a tree and gone off the road, the fire department reported.

Firefighters found an adult male driver trapped in the vehicle and freed him by using hydraulic tools, also known as the Jaws of Life. 

A medical transport helicopter was called. Once extrication was complete, firefighters transported the patient to Ted Williams Camp, where the helicopter landed. 

Lakeville FIre had no further information on the patient’s condition unknown but a social media post said to be from the man’s brother indicates he is going to recover but faces “a long road ahead’’ with broken bones and a compound leg fracture.
