CARVER - Douglas Clark Atkins, age 70, of Carver, formerly of Middleborough, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at his home.

Douglas was born and raised in Middleborough and was a graduate of Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School in Taunton. In 1974, he enlisted in the US Army; Douglas received decorations and commendations for his accuracy and proficiency as a Sharpshooter as well as an Expert with an M16 rifle. He served two years in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1976. Douglas married his first wife, Cathy Ann (Wright) in 1984, started their family and worked as a printer for Winthrop-Atkins Manufacturing in Middleborough. In 2012, he married Teresa Warren and brought the two families together, sharing love and laughs.

Douglas was an avid reader and was a published author of several books. He loved writing, he was always busy writing something. Douglas enjoyed playing a good game of chess too. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was a simple man, led a simple life; he was loved and he will be missed.

Douglas was the beloved husband of Teresa (McCann) Atkins and the late Cathy (Wright) Atkins; loving father of Justin Fletcher Atkins of Bridgewater; cherished son of Margaret (Clark) Atkins of Middleborough & the late Harold Atkins; loving step-father of Michael Warren & his wife Melissa of Plymouth, Julie Nordahl & her husband Robert of Middleborough and Craig Warren of Middleborough; adored "Grampa Doug" to grandchildren: Alyssa, Alexander, Addeline, Annika, Robert Jr., Olivia, Craig Jr., and to great-grandson: Benicio; dear brother of Kathryn Atkins & her husband Andrew Konnerth of North Smithfield, RI, Jennie Atkins of Harwich, Martha Edwards & her husband Mark of Middleborough, Charles Atkins & his wife Lori of Centerville and Robert Atkins & his wife Tracy of Spring, TX. Douglas is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends are welcome to the visiting hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 3:00-7:00 PM.

All are invited to the funeral service at the Ashley Funeral Home, Middleborough, on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM.

Interment services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association.
