Do-knitting during the holidays
MIDDLEBORO — A group of volunteers from Middleboro’s Council on Aging spent an estimated 10,000 hours knitting for a cause. They crafted hundreds of knitted and crocheted items in recent months, which will be donated to local organizations and charities.
The group of knitters gathers weekly at the Council on Aging, where they design blankets, hats, mittens and other pieces.
According to a press release by the Council on Aging, the pieces have been donated to organizations including veterans services, nursing homes, The St. Vincent de Paul Society and Conway House.
“This group possesses amazing talent and compassion,” said Middleboro Council on Aging Volunteer Coordinator CarolAnn Plausky. “Each piece is made from the heart and expertly crafted.”
On Nov. 14, the group met to lay out and bundle over 600 creations to be delivered in December. “It's nice to view these items knowing they will be donated to someone in need,” said Middleboro Council on Aging Activities Coordinator Kathy Medeiros.
