Dennis G. Sylvia, 91

Dennis G. Sylvia of Middleboro, formerly of Mattapoisett and Rochester, died peacefully on January 3 2024, surrounded by his loving family including his wife of 63 years, Mary Evelyn. He was 91.

Dennis was born on December 1, 1932, and was the son of Dennis A. and Carolyn (Westgate) Sylvia. He was the younger brother of the late Natalie (Sylvia) Hemingway. Dennis was a graduate of Fairhaven High School Class of 1950. Dennis earned an associate degree in communications from Curry College. Upon getting his degree he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War.

Dennis was a man of God, a prayer warrior and wonderful husband and father of 4, grandfather of 10, and great-grandfather of 5.

Dennis worked at Dahill Company in New Bedford, the Rochester Public Schools and C. P. Borg in New Bedford. He was an avid sports fan and played in various hockey and softball leagues. Dennis loved going to church, prayer meeting and Bible studies.

He is survived by his wife Mary Evelyn (Root) Sylvia, three sons, Gary and his wife Mary Ellen (Danahey) Sylvia, Duane and his wife Melanie (Trott) Sylvia, David and wife Heatherly (Lane) Sylvia, all of Middleboro and his daughter Lynn (Sylvia) Peterson of West Wareham.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Samaritan’s Purse.

Relatives and friends may call on January 11, 2024 (Thursday) from 4 until 7 p.m. to the O'Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce Street (corner of School Street) Middleboro.

Interment will be private and in the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
