WAREHAM - David E. Shulenburg, 65, of Middleboro, Massachusetts, passed away on September 19, 2024, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, surrounded by his loved ones, after a long illness.

Born on November 2, 1958, in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Irene (Simpson) and John Shulenburg of Grafton.

David grew up in Grafton, where he was known for being a bit of a troublemaker in his youth and had a goofy sense of humor. His sister fondly recalls how he would often come home with random animals, once even catching a hummingbird. He graduated from Grafton High School in 1976 and went on to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Architectural Design. Throughout his career, he worked with various architectural firms, contributing to both residential and commercial projects, including the restoration of the Plymouth Hedge House.

David met his wife, Wendy (Crouse), while working at Zayre’s, and they married in April of 1989. Together, they had four children and shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. David was fiercely devoted to his family and took great pride in being a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid reader, a dog lover, aquarist, and plant enthusiast, and appreciated a good TV show or movie.

David’s beloved children have grown into the loving, caring, and devoted people he always hoped they would become. Ashlee is the owner of a videography business, Jake is a skilled automotive technician, John is soon to graduate with a degree in engineering and sciences, and Steffanee is a certified nursing assistant providing home care.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy, of East Wareham, and their four children: Ashlee Vroom and her husband, Nick, and their son, Hudson, of New Bedford; Jake Shulenburg of East Wareham; John Shulenburg and his partner, Madi Ladd, of St. Matthews, South Carolina; and Steffanee Shulenburg and her partner, Dyvonte Johnson, of East Wareham. He also leaves behind his brother, John “Jack” Shulenburg, of Woodstock Valley, Connecticut, and his sister, Nancy (Shulenburg) Bielecki, and her husband, Wayne, of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, as well as his niece, Sarah, and nephew, Matthew. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his aunts, Marion Simpson and Edna Simpson, both of Auburn, Massachusetts.

“As you are looking down on us, we will always be looking up to you.”

Visiting hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
