Barbara Shirley (Piper) Kemp, 102
QUINCY - Barbara Shirley (Piper) Kemp, age 102, of Quincy, formerly of Middleborough, died on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the Dr. Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree.
She was born in Quincy on August 31, 1923, the daughter of the late Ernest & Laura (Raymond) Piper. Barbara was raised, educated and married in Quincy, living in Quincy for 102 years. She graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1941 and Hickock Secretarial School.
Barbara's first job was at the Granite Trust Bank as a stenographer. She then raised her family and returned to work at the same bank, renamed South Shore National Bank; she worked as the Executive Secretary to the Chairman of the bank, W.J. Martin.
Barb was active at the Houghs Neck Congregational Church in Quincy, where she and her husband, Roy raised their family. She led many Stonecroft women's neighborhood Bible studies through the years. Barbara led her last Bible study for five years at 1000 Southern Artery, Quincy, until she retired at age 92. In later years, she was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Quincy; at the age of 96, she became a charter member of the Freedom Baptist Church which met at Quincy Point Homes for its first few years.
She was a talented piano player, playing music for family enjoyment as well as at church. Barb enjoyed travelling with Roy and three other couples; journeys to Alaska, California and Yellowstone National Park were some of the highlights.
Always willing, Barbara babysat her seven grandchildren many times. Known for her storytelling ability, the grandchildren looked forward to Grandma's visits!
Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Alfred Roy Kemp; devoted mother of Beverly Trewhella & her husband Christopher of Statham, GA, Alan Kemp & his wife Angela of Middleborough, and Douglas Kemp & his wife Susan of Dover, NH; loving grandmother of David Trewhella & Julia Raylinsky of Athens, GA, John (Christina) Kemp of Lakeville, Jason (Leah) Kemp of Kingston, Peter (Jillian) Kemp of Middleborough, Andrew (Valentina) Kemp of Middleborough, Ian (Rachel) Kemp of Houston, TX; great-grandmother of Teagan, Declan, Johnny, Gianna, Jason Jr., Henry, Madelynn, Bentley, Paisley, Alena, Sabrina, Blakely, Ellie and Sophie; dear sister of the late Eloise Sines, Laura Urquhart, Virginia Travaglini and Ernest Piper; and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to Barbara's visitation period at the Ashley~Drolette Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:45 PM.
Interment at the South Middleborough Cemetery, 565 Wareham Street, (Route 28), South Middleborough.
