Born in Middleboro, he was the son of the late Allan & Eileen (Fleming) Roberts. Al grew up in Middleboro, attended public schools, and as a teenager he worked on Picone Farm in Middleborough as a farmhand. He graduated from Middleborough High School, Class of 1981. 

 

He worked for Ocean Spray Cranberries for a few years. Al enrolled in the New England Tech School in Rhode Island, with the primary focus of robotic technology; he loved anything and everything with robotics! For years, he used his robotics knowledge working for the Gillette Company in Boston and for the Stop & Shop Warehouse in Freetown. Later on, Al worked at the High Point Hospital in Middleboro as a mental health worker. He loved the outdoors, was a devoted walker tracking his daily walks of five miles, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He was an avid "nerd" and was most content watching his "nerdy shows".
