By Wheel and By Hand Class at Mudstone Studios Ceramics
Mudstone Studios (www.mudstonestudio.com) in Wareham is offering a Ceramics class in April called By Wheel and By Hand. So what could that class entail?
This is an 8 week class that incorporates both types of Ceramic making in one packed skillbuilding class. We will begin with wheel throwing, or making functional pottery on a throwing wheel. When students gain enough skill to create some small cylinders or bowls, we will create several pieces, and then bring them over to the handbuilding area to create individual sculptural pieces with these thrown creations. These can be made by combining pieces, or cutting, or expanding, building or sculpting the pieces into an abstract shape, or all of the above. If you would like to try your hand at both wheelworking and handbuilding ceramics, this is the class for you! Students will create 6-8 pieces or more to glaze and bring home.
If you would just like to dip a toe into ceramics, we also offer a 4 visit pass to the studio, where you can do some guided handbuilding, which is a great way to see if you would like to do more. If you are an experienced ceramacist, or if you have taken a class or two, you can become a member here at Mudstone Studios. Membership affords you open entry any time of day via key code into the studio to work at your leisure. We have all of the equipment and tools that you will need to work to your heart’s content.
Come on in and visit us any time during Open Studio hours. Open Studio hours are Monday night from 6-9, Wednesday from noon to 3, and Saturday afternoon from 1:30 to 4:30. We look forward to seeing you!
