Time flies when you are having fun.

It is a phrase that rings true in the Cape Cod Baseball League. It seemed like yesterday when the Gatemen hosted the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in June for Opening Day, and now they prepare for their final home game of the regular season.

The Gatemen are hungry for a win after dropping three straight games following their playoff-clinching win over Chatham on Tuesday. On Friday, the Gatemen experienced a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Cotuit, getting walked off in the bottom of the ninth after allowing two runs in the inning.

They now face the Falmouth Commodores for the final time this season. Falmouth is fighting for its playoff life as it currently sits in last place in the West Division standings with Hyannis ahead of it by three points.

The Commodores need to win out and have Hyannis lose out to grab the fourth spot in the playoffs. The Gatemen, on the other hand, grab a top-two seed with a win over Falmouth.

Starting Pitchers

The Gatemen will start right-hander Logan Baisley (Florida Gulf Coast). Baisley makes his sixth start of the season against the Commodores. He has started five of nine games this summer and posts a 7.11 ERA through 19 innings with 24 hits, 16 runs (15 earned), 10 walks, and 17 strikeouts.

His last appearance was July 27 against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. In that game, he went three and two-thirds innings with three hits, one unearned run, two walks, and two strikeouts.

Falmouth will counter with left-hander Jacob Dorn (Miami). Dorn makes his first CCBL start against the Gatemen. His first and only appearance with the Commodores so far was against the Gatemen on July 26.

In that game, he went four innings scoreless with one hit, three walks, and three strikeouts. He will need to be sharp against the Gatemen, who have seen him once before.

Players to Watch

For Wareham:

  • Chris Ramirez (California Baptist) was responsible for both Gatemen runs on Friday against the Kettleers. He drove in the first with an RBI single, then scored the second from second base.
  • Brayden Randle (Ole Miss) made a great defensive play to create a lineout double play to get the Gatemen out of bases bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning on Friday against Cotuit. He also almost made a similar play against the Bourne Braves on Wednesday.

For Falmouth:

  • Kent Schmidt (Georgia Tech) grabbed one of two hits the Falmouth Commodores would get against the Bourne Braves on Friday. He is now on a four-game hitting streak.
  • Maika Niu (Marshall) did not have a hit against Bourne on Friday, but he had two walks and scored a run. Recently, he has been the leadoff man for the Commodores and has given good starts for his lineup.

First pitch for tonight’s game will be at 6:00 p.m. at Spillane Field in Wareham. You can attend the game for free, or you can tune in to the Gatemen’s broadcast on Cape League TV with Cory Miller, Josh Richardson, and Rayna Maggelet on the call by clicking HERE
