New Bedford Symphony Orchestra Presents “Goosby Plays Brahms” on November 21 at The Zeiterion
The New Bedford Symphony Orchestra (NBSO), under the direction of Music Director Yaniv Dinur, presents Goosby Plays Brahms on Saturday, November 21, 2026, 7:30 PM at The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in downtown New Bedford. Featuring acclaimed violinist Randall Goosby, the concert brings together three extraordinary works that explore the beauty, passion, and restless energy of orchestral music.
At the heart of the evening is Johannes Brahms’ magnificent Violin Concerto, performed by rising star Randall Goosby. One of the most beloved works in the violin repertoire, the concerto combines soaring melodies, intimate lyricism, and exhilarating virtuosity, culminating in a spirited finale inspired by Hungarian dance. Goosby, celebrated for his expressive playing and captivating stage presence, brings his artistry to a work that is as emotionally moving as it is technically dazzling.
The program also takes audiences on a musical journey through the Americas, beginning with Kauyumari by acclaimed Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz. Inspired by the spiritual traditions of the Wixárika (Huichol) people of Mexico, the work bursts with infectious rhythms, vibrant orchestral colors, and an almost hypnotic energy. Its title refers to a sacred blue deer, a spiritual guide connecting the human and divine worlds.
American composer Samuel Barber's Symphony No. 1 offers a striking contrast. Written when Barber was just 26 years old, this powerful symphony unfolds in one continuous movement, weaving together sweeping melodies, dramatic intensity, and moments of profound tenderness. By turns restless, tragic, and deeply poignant, it showcases the extraordinary emotional range of a full symphony orchestra.
Together, these three works promise an evening of bold contrasts, from the intoxicating rhythms of Ortiz to the emotional intensity of Barber and the timeless beauty of Brahms.
The November 21 performance also offers audiences another opportunity to experience the NBSO in the beautifully renovated Zeiterion, where the orchestra returned for its 2026–2027 season. Whether attending a symphony concert for the first time or returning for another unforgettable evening, concertgoers can expect the thrill of live orchestral music in a setting designed to bring audiences and performers together.
