Join the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries on Thursday, December 12, at 4:00 p.m. to hear local author Ben Shattuck discuss his new book, The History of Sound.  A collection of interconnected stories set in New England, The History of Sound explores the unexpected ways the past returns and how love and loss are entwined and transformed over generations.  A film based on the book’s Pushcart Prize-winning title story is preparing for release in 2025.  The program will be held at Dartmouth North Branch Library.

Ben Shattuck is the author of Six Walks: In the Footsteps of Henry David Thoreau, which was a New Yorker Best Book of 2022, a Wall Street Journal Best Book of Spring, a New York Times Best Book of Summer, and a New England Indie Bestseller and was nominated for the Massachusetts Book Award.  He is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and winner of the PEN Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers and a Pushcart Prize.  He lives with his wife and daughter in Dartmouth where he runs Davoll's General Store.  Copies of The History of Sound will be available for purchase at the event.

Mr. Shattuck’s presentation is free and open to the public and will be held at Dartmouth North Branch Library, 211 Cross Road, Dartmouth.  For more information, please e-mail fodl.libraries@gmail.com.
