Soule serves up tasty fund-raiser
MIDDLEBORO – Soule Homestead Education Center hosted their first farm-to-table brunch fundraiser in a new location Saturday, Aug. 1.
Executive director Kelly MacDonald Weeks said the event was a success. “We were lucky to grab some excellent weather and the hard work from our community gardeners and the entire property were able to shine,” she said after the event.
Weeks said she wanted to change things up and try a brunch for the fundraiser instead of the dinners the center had hosted in the past. The brunch took place on the pavilion abutting the garden, which was built around 10 years ago for a Boy Scout's Eagle project. The dinners took place in a field near a barn, Weeks said.
“I love that we were in proximity to [the garden],” Weeks said, as she wanted to highlight the community members who use the garden.
Guests were treated to a menu including poached eggs, wild mushroom frittata and goat cheese wild flower toasts, all cooked by chef Victor Vieira from Warren’s Harborview in Wareham.
Soule Homestead sourced food from nine farms across the area, including Elliot Farm in Lakeville, and Plato’s Harvest Organic Farm and Lolans Farm in Middleboro. Weeks said that the herbs and flowers came from Soule’s community gardens.
Weeks said her 8-year-old son was proud to see the mint he picked garnish multiple dishes.
The money raised from ticket sales and the silent auction will fund repairs for the center’s small barn, which hasn’t been repaired since it was built 25 years ago.
