Learn about yesterday's history and today's cell phones at senior center

MIDDLEBORO -- The Middleboro Senior Center is hosting a variety of events in August. Here is a sampling:

On Thursday Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. live jazz will be performed with the Reis Medeiros Trio featuring Reis Medeiros on piano, Steve Brum on bass, and Pedro Silva on drums. The group brings together three lifelong friends who first met while studying music at UMass Dartmouth.

Today, each member is an accomplished music educator. Their shared passion for music and years of friendship shine through as they present a mix of jazz standards, Latin favorites, and timeless classics.

A Smart Phone workshop for seniors will take place Aug. 18, woth IPhone users at 1 to 2 p.m. and Android users from 2 to 3 p.m.

These hands-on, supportive workshops are designed to help older adults build confidence and independence by learning how to use their smartphones.

Rita Parisi Presents: 1908 Tea takes place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27.

“1908 Tea” is an immersive, one-woman historical performance by award-winning actress and producer Rita Parisi, who lays Mrs. Gordon, a turn-of-the-century hostess. She brings  the early 20th century to life through story, costume, and period-accurate detail.

The program is set during an afternoon or evening tea in 1908, with Parisi portraying Mrs. Gordon, who has recently returned from a trip to Boston. She entertains the audience with anecdotes from her travels, including visits to a picture show and shopping at Jordan Marsh.
