Happy campers unite to honor Ted Williams, support Jimmy Fund
Once again this year, alumni from the former Ted Williams Camp are uniting to strike out cancer.
The annual Ted Williams Camp Alumni and Friends Jimmy Fund benefit returns to Loon Pond Lodge at Ted Williams camp, 26 Precinct St., at noon Sunday, July 12.
Events include music, bingo, food and drink and a silent auction. Prizes for the silent auction include Red Sox tickets and other sports memorabilia.
The fee is $30, which includes lunch and automatic entry into door prizes.
The fund-raiser is former participants of the Ted Williams Camp, a long-time summer program that taught youths about baseball.
Williams, the camp’s namesake and former owner, was a long-time supporter of the Jimmy Fund, which was founded in Boston in 1948 and features fund-raising events and programs that benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The former Red Sox slugger made many appearances at events and organizations to promote the cause, according to the Jimmy Fund. He was also known for making many under-the-radar visits to children battling cancer
