Don’t get burned: Lakeville residential burn permit requirements
LAKEVILLE — Residential burn permits are required for all open burning in Lakeville and must be obtained prior to any burning activity.
Only permits that have been approved and paid in full are valid. A burn permit may be applied for only by the property owner, or by another individual who has written authorization from the property owner.
Even with a valid permit, burning is allowed only on days when conditions permit. Residents must call the Open Burning Line on the day they plan to burn to confirm whether burning is allowed.
The Open Burning Line can be reached at 508-946-0044. A recorded message will indicate whether open burning is permitted for that day.
Open burning shall be conducted only under the following conditions:
Burning hours: Between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., from Jan. 15 through May 1, as permitted by state law.
Distance requirements: Fires must be located at least 75-feet from all buildings.
Location: Burning shall occur as close as practicable to the source of the material being burned.
Air quality: Burning is allowed only when air quality conditions are acceptable.
Residents are encouraged to check air quality conditions by calling the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Air Quality Hotline at 800- 882-1497 or by visiting MassAir Online.
